Aye-yi-yi! My last post didn't show up. It was a celebrity look-alike thingy. Apparently, I kinda look like a pose of Jessica Alba and Tia Carrere (from Relic Hunter). Pretty weird huh?

Anyhow, Schindler's List was a movie played in History....Gosh, I was more MAD than sad. Yea, I admit, I cried (what a wuss, eh?) but just at this one scene!

I'm thinking of joining Model U.N or something. I REALLY TRUELY want the holocaust and suffering around the world to stop....
Besides, I realized that my chance of being in a sports team is 0%, so mind as well make a difference, right?

Peace out, y'all! <3 (lol...i hate myself for being such a wannabe *shakes head*)

We're moving on to a more sensitive topic in History, WWII & the holocaust.

On Thursday, Breen and Ms. Hassles showed us some graphic and gory slideshow from the holocaust. I was both sick to my stomach and angry at Hitler. I think I turned all green because Hassles came over to my desk to ask if I was alright. There was this one photograph that i will never forget: A REAL stuffed head of a man.

And yesterday, we had a holocaust survivor, Dr. Eva Olsson, come over to our school. She told us of her experience which really got into me. Dr. Olsson was separated from her mother and sister the moment she stepped down her train in Auschwitz, Germany. She never had the chance to say goodbye to her mother. That hit me that it could've happened to me, and I started crying.

Dr. Olsson explained that she was tortured and starved to death at the Concentration Camp because of her religion. She was forced to work, and they served her human soup everyday. That too, was a small portion. Each day, she smelled human flesh burning from the chimney, where at least 200 people were burned into, each day.

She adviced us that we have a lot more in common, than we are different. Her speech was powerful.

I got a chance to briefly see her after her presentation. I said to her,"You've changed my view of the world." I thanked her and gave that lady a hug....NOBODY deserves to be ill-treated because of who they are.

Ironically, these things still happen in places such as North Korea and parts of Africa....

When will humanity learn from their mistakes?

I love this song! =) It has wonderful instrumentals (i love the violins!) , a great singer, and such meaningful lyrics. Everytime I listen to it, I remember the first time I came to Canada..
I think of saying the lyrics itself to you guys in SG, "I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean"....because my worst fear, is to be forgotten.

Anyhow, I do hope you find inspiration while reading/listening to this song. Such beauty it has in words=)

I hope you dance-Lee Ann Womack

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give fate a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance I
hope you dance I hope you dance
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above More than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
(Chorus):
I hope you dance
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their years and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

One of the worst days of my life...

  1. I got cut from the volleyball tryouts bcuz im "too short and the only thing I can do is pass to other team members". A little too harsh!
  2. I am discouraged from joining sports team by one of my parent
  3. Screwed up bad in French debate

One highlight of the day:

*HE noticed me while I was getting a skipping rope during Gym Class =). But it was probably nothing?

November 11th; on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at 11:00, marked an important day. In Canada, it is known as...

REMEMBRANCE DAY
Walking around my school for the past week, I noticed many people pinned a Poppy on their left chest. A symbol for peace, unity and remembrance. We had a WWII veteran giving a speech, with the choir and bands playing the national anthem and The Last Post.
Many countries around the world celebrate this day to honour the people involved in the war, to mark the end of the brutal WWI when the Treaty of Armistice was signed (at the 11th hour of Nov.11 in 1918). Yes, history is my favorite subject =). Canada played a role in the war, although it wasn't really quite "independent" as a whole, yet. I am REALLY surprised that Singapore doesn't celebrate this, because as we all know, SG was a colony of England.

Anyhow, "HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF". Just look around, you'll realize what I mean. (Hint: today's fashion styles, the whole retor & vintage). WWII happened, didn't it?
Signed Treaties were made to PREVENT wars. But usually, people FORGET and start WARS. That is the purpose of Remembrance Day.

We have more in common than we are different. On this special day, I say we should stop for a minute. Think about all the innocent lives taken just because of SOME idiots. Think about the people who are criticized and killed, just because of the way they are born. Think about children orphaned from the war, and imagine ourselves in this position.
Ironic, how wars still go on in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan...will humans ever learn?

Give Peace a Chance.

In Flanders Fields-John MacCraig
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lest we forget.

Every year, my sis and I will invite some friends over to our house for a little "Par-tay!". Well, we had one yesterday an BOY, oh BOY! I had fun! =) My girls and I went crazy watching our fave soap opera (Passions) and we ate and gossiped and went hIgH! I had a lot of fun with them. Originally, I invited at least 10 girls, only half of them made it.

When all of my friends left, I chilled with my sis' crew and we had a game of charades. Gosh, I had to be a "ball, tablecloth & candle" it was damn crazy! I had the best party everrr!!

note: not a lot of "whites" eh?...lol that's cuz many couldnt come..I wish they all came, though =(

The Raya House Raiding continues again this weekend...
Visited 2 houses (one in Ajax, another in downtown Toronto) yesterday...! =) It was great! I met a Caucasian Canadian lady who converted into Muslim and married a M'sian guy. She was a Scuba Diver and currently teaches science. She's such a cool lady!! I got to know her pretty well...I guess you can say we're friends.
We're off to Waterloo today. (that's about 2 hrs away, I think). We're going to baby Shukri's house! He's sooo adorable!
